It's a Man's World or Beauty and the Briefcase

We live in a new generation where everything is possible. Girls can play football,  boys can do ballet. Some of the best chefs in the world are male, women working in construction are being played more. But even though the gender barrier is thin there is still the issue of female discrimination on the workplace.

Let`s face it we live in a men`s world.  The percentage of males taking senior and higher paid positions is much bigger that the percentage of females. Even in the rare occasions when a lady walks through the conference room door and sits on the boss’ chair, the amount or respect she would get is lower that if it was a man.

Deep down in the human’s mind the woman’s place is in the kitchen, her job is to take care of the kids and make a sandwich. But is it so hard to understand that times are changing and females are capable of replacing the pink housewife slippers with corporate high heels and walk straight into the business world.

Gender discrimination at the work place is an often-faced issue – the same idea is perceived differently depending on the sex of the person presenting it. Do you think that men are purposely discriminating females so they won’t face the situation when SHE will tell them what to do? Or maybe there is a part of the male brain used to take orders and directions from low deep voice only? Or maybe the females also have fault for being discriminated? How man times you have witnessed a lady dealing with a problem emotional instead of professional?

And in the end – does it really matter what gender is the person sitting in that black leather chair at the end of the table,
as long as the job is well done.

As long a woman knows how to behave professional she will always be respected! When one person acts rational and calm while presenting a good idea the gender doesn't matter. It all depends on the right behaviour and language.

    1. Hi, Ioana, thank you for commenting on our posts, your opinion is very valuable for us and we do appreciate the time. However don't you think that for a female is much harder to climb the corporate success ladder?

Well it depends on the woman. It may be hard but is only because of the way some people have this idea of THE MAN being the big powerful BOSS. Times has changed and women are as capable as men to get a senior position job.

Why are women always bitching "ooooh how hard it is to be a successful female" when they can get 1 year off work to have a kid while someone else has to do their job! How is this discrimination?!?

No, see, this point of view is stupid, no offence. That is how human nature works. The man is supposed to be successful in his career because this is his role in the family and the point of his life. Women are created so they can continue the population for which they do need time no matter if it is going to be year or more. The fact that some women can combine starting a family and still develop their career is admirable and has nothing to do with discrimination.

    2. Hi Ryan, thank you for expanding our topic with your comment. However in this blog post we are trying to answer the question do men discriminate females only for their gender. If you were business owner and you have two candidates for a senior position with the same qualities but opposite genders what is going to be the factor that helps you to take the decision?

Well probably I will choose the male because I am 99% certain the woman will eventually take a year off to have a child which is a waste of money for me. Also as you said it is a man`s world and some business partners especially older ones won`t take her seriously.

    4. That is exactly our point! What do you think is the reason for that? Just stereotypes or actual facts?

I don`t think that if SHE is professional and good at what she does, she will less respected and "not taken seriously". Have you watched The Devil Wears Prada....

  4. Hi, I saw your blog on Twitter and decided to write my opinion because I actually had this discussion few days ago with some friends (yes male friends :D). I think in order for a lady to succeed in the corporate world she has to be kind of a bitch! Cold, strict and direct - think that is the only way when she will be taken seriously. For men it comes natural, but for the "gentle" gender it is harder so it should be go hard or go home :)) Hope someone supports my opinion :)
